The Truth is set in Ankh-Morpork. Honest-to-the-death William de Word makes a living by sending well-researched news of Ankh-Morpork to the rulers of foreign countries… until he meets a company of dwarves trying to organize an almost-illegal printing press. He unintentionally creates the first newspaper system in the known world, changes the beliefs of Ankh-Morpork’s upper classes and discovers a major plot to depose the patrician… Sorry, I think I just broke my Zero Spoilers rule.
In this book, the Watch is not seen to be on the same side as the main character, only facing the same way. There is mention of the ‘speciesist’ problem in the upper classes. In the early beginning, it seems like there will be obvious, boring, been-there-done-that, typical romance, but Terry Pratchett sorts that out quickly. I don’t need to say that this book makes you laugh, I said that in the first line, starting with ‘Author:’. The Truth is, miraculously, child-safe.
